GAWENDO

Ray Gawendo, 103, of Norwichtown, formerly of Moosup, died April 3. She was the widow of Jacob Gawendo. A Holocaust survivor, she was one of the few who survived the Klooga labor camp in Estonia. Born in Minsk, Russia, she was the daughter of the late Maurice and Rachela (Gershovitz) Akselrod. She is survived by her sons, Evert Gawendo and his wife Lisa of Griswold, and Maurice Gawendo and his wife Shelly Tesler of Mystic; her grandchildren, Jacob Gawendo and his wife Caitlin, Michael Gawendo and his fiancée Kristine Wujcik, Julie Gawendo and her partner J. Sassaman of San Francisco, Calif., and Melissa Pulley and her husband Kyle of Montclair, N.J.; and her great-grandchildren, Mila, Miles, and Ruby Rae.
