Hartford’s Jewish Community Foundation celebrates 50 years

This Mosaic is a gift to the community from the Jewish Community Foundation of Greater Hartford in honor of the Foundation’s 50th anniversary. In April, more than 950 community members, ages 2 to 99, set to work laying the 40,000 tiles that make up this beautiful work of art, designed by Joan Rothenberg and Yael Buxbaum.

On exhibit at the Mandell JCC, this is the inscription on the mosaic plaque:

Mosaic is a gift to the community from the Jewish Community Foundation of Greater Hartford in honor of its 50th anniversary. Over 950 community members, ages 2 to 99, participated in laying its 40,000 tiles in April 2022. The Mosaic exemplifies our conviction that each person can make a difference, and together we can build a better world.

This work of art exhibits the dynamism and diversity of the Greater Hartford Jewish community. Represented are the Mandell JCC, a synagogue, Jonathans Dream, helping hands and colorful foliage. These reflect our communitys brilliant features of spiritual power, vibrant culture, inclusion, loving kindness and stunning landscapes. What else do you see?
