In time for Passover, Kehilat Chaverim is launching a community food drive. The congregation will accept donations of non-perishable, unopened food items, which should be dropped off near the main entrance of the Mandell Jewish Community Center at 335 Bloomfield Ave. between March 11 and 30. While there, donors may help themselves to a small wooden spoon that is used in the ritual of clearing of “hametz” — leavening— from one’s home. Donations will go to Hands on Hartford’s community food pantry.
