Easton man named baseball coach of new summer sports academy

FAIRFIELD – Logan Barer has signed on as baseball coach of the new Ramah Sports Academy (RSA), to be held on the campus of Fairfield University this summer. Logan will spend a month at the camp, from June 27 to July 24.

Barer brings with him both his athletic skills and an inspiration story to his new post. The young man from Easton battled Stage III melanoma at the age of nine. After a long, painful – and successful – treatment and rehab process, he played baseball for Suffield Academy, and was subsequently recruited by Ithaca College, where he was a four-year varsity pitcher.

“I want to make sure these kids have as much fun as possible, which should be easy considering they’ll be playing the greatest sport in the world at such an amazing camp on a great campus,” says Barer. “My job will be not only to make sure they have fun, but also get better at baseball. My hope is that each camper will be better at the game when they leave than when they arrived, having had an amazing time in the process.”

Barer is especially eager to contribute to RSA as a way of giving back to Camp Ramah for all they have done for his younger brother, who attends Camp Ramah in Palmer, Massachusetts as part of its Tikvah program for children with special needs.
