(Zoom)— Living in Jewish Time: Modern Day Prophets,” 7:30 p.m.; monthly class taught by Rabbi Levy to discuss how the Jewish calendar teaches us how to find meaning in every day life. SUNDAY, JANUARY 15 —17

Greenwich, Conn.—UJA-JCC Greenwich 20023 Film Festival presents: “Breaking Bread,” an Israeli documentary that explores the A-Sham Festival in Haifa, where Arab and Jewish chefs work together creating mouth-watering dishes and share a love of cooking. The chefs put personal spins on traditional recipes handed down over generations, transforming flavors while political and religious differences melt away. Breaking Bread gives hope to the idea that collaboration in the kitchen could be a bridge to mutual understanding and, perhaps, a first step toward a lasting peace. SATURDAY, JANUARY 21

Sherman, Conn.—Kala Farnham, CT’s new Troubadour, will perform at the JCC in Sherman at 7 p.m. She will be joined by George Mallas. The recipient of numerous awards, Farnham is serving as the current Connecticut State Troubadour, 2020 Falcon Ridge Festival Emerging Artist, 2020 Great American Song Contest Finalist, and 2019 Rose Garden George Mallas has been writing and playing his piano-based songs since his teen years. He has released two CDs  Reservations a must.  At this time, the concert is to be held outdoors. If the concert is to be held indoors, masks will be required to be worn by all individuals. THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 2

New Haven, Conn.—Yale Symposium on Holocaust and Genocide; to be held at the Harkness Auditorium at Yale School of Medicine, on Feb/ 2, 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.  Presented by the Yale School of Medicine’s Program for Biomedical Ethics. The purpose of this annual event is to engage an academic and medical audience, as well as the wider community, in a program designed to address issues related to the Holocaust and genocide of the Nazi era, as well as other examples more recently in history and to the present day. The symposium has a focus on the role played by physicians, but, as you can see from the attached brochure, our scope is much wider. After four lectures presented by outstanding leaders on a wide spectrum of subjects, there will be a panel and audience discussion on the increase of anti-Semitism nationally and internationally. 

This is an in-person event. This is an in-person event, but it will also be broadcast via zoom, and on-line participants will be able to submit questions to the speakers and to the panel.  Lunch and refreshments provided. FREE

Greenwich, Conn.—The UJA-JCC Film Festival presents: “America.” Eli is a private, soft-spoken Israeli swimming coach living in Chicago. One day, he receives a call that his father has passed away. Upon returning to Tel Aviv, he meets up with his childhood friend, Yotam and his fiancée, Iris (Oshrat Ingadeshet, Best Actress prizewinner at the Jerusalem Film Festival), who run a flower shop together. Suddenly, in the blink of an eye, a tragedy sets off a chain of events for these three individuals, unlocking their hidden desires, secrets and torments. Israel (127 minutes).
