New Haven couple celebrate 69 years of marriage

Liberman photoIt was the summer of 1940 and 17-year old Lee Liberman of Springfield, Mass. was visiting friends at Woodmont Beach in Milford when he happened to meet a pretty 16-year old named Lillian Estren.
That’s all it took. Four and a half years later, on Feb. 27, 1944 – when Lee was on weekend leave from the army, he and Lillian, or “Lil,”  married and began a new life together.
Along the way, they moved to New Haven, where they raised their three daughters.  Until their retirement some years ago, Lee worked for Metropolitan Life Insurance and Lil worked as a dental office assistant for New Haven’s Dr. Leon Horton and Dr. Richard Jacobs. Active in Jewish life, they are still members of Westville Synagogue and the Orchard Street shul, where Lee serves as president. They are also members of the Hebrew Free Loan and Burial Association, the Ethnic Heritage Center of New Haven, and the Golan Chapter of ARMDI (American Red Magen David for Israel).
When the Libermans celebrate their 69th anniversary on Feb. 27 they will do so with their three daughters, as well as their four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
