Reva and Joe Fleischman of New Haven received the President’s Award from the Hebrew High School of New England (HHNE) at the school’s 2013 gala held on Wednesday evening, May 29. Philanthropist Harold Grinspoon of Springfield was also honored for his ongoing support of the school, as well as the many programs he has developed to help nurture Jewish identity among children, including his creation of the popular PJ Library program that has been adopted by Jewish communities throughout the country.

“I know that the education our teenagers receive at HHNE will make them confident and proud Jews who will contribute so much to society,” said Grinspoon in accepting his award.

“There is no greater satisfaction that I get than when I visit schools like HHNE and observe Jewish children and young adults engaging with each other and their teachers and acquiring skills and knowledge in both their Judaic and general studies. Today’s HHNE students are tomorrow’s Jewish leaders.”

David Rosen, the Gala’s Master of Ceremonies and incoming HHNE President, said, “It is so personally rewarding to play a role at Hebrew High School of New England. The spirit and overall support for HHNE and our honorees was so prevalent at the Gala event and there was a tremendous turnout from all three of our contingent communities.”
