Hartford family gains another firefighter

On October 27, Quentin Fanniel Shapiro (second from right), 22, graduated from the Hartford Fire Academy, joining the ranks of his brother Ashley Shapiro (right), 29, who has served as a firefighter in Hartford for more than 10 years, and his father, Leigh Shapiro (left), who retired as a Hartford firefighter in June 2016, after 28 years of service. Quentin’s mother, Malena Shapiro, pinned the badge on her son Quentin during the ceremony. Quentin served as a fire cadet in the City of Hartford for the past two years before being accepted as a probationary firefighter on July 10th of this year. Not pictured here is his sister, Jordan Shapiro, 31, who has served the City of Hartford as an EMT, working with Aetna Ambulance Service, for the past six years.
