Irving E. Germain

Irving E. Germain, 87, of Bloomfield, beloved husband of Renee (Eisenberg) Germain, passed away peacefully on Friday, May 6, 2011. He was born May 11, 1923 to the late Morey and Esther (Baram) Germain. He was raised in Connecticut and lived in Bloomfield since 1967.  Prior to his retirement in 1987, Irving was a Civil Engineer with the Connecticut Dept. of Transportation for 21 years.  Irving served our country honorably during World War II in the U. S. Army, 673rd Topographical Engineering Company.  He was a member of the Jewish War Veterans and named a Chevalier in the French Legion of Honor in 2008.  He was a Bronze Life Master of bridge, a proud alumnus of the University of Michigan, and an avid Red Sox fan. In addition to his wife, Irving is survived by his loving children, Vickie Germain Kobak (Jonathan) of New York City, Wendy Germain Mackstutis (Brian) of Simsbury, Barbara Germain of New York City, Alan Germain (Janet) of Palatine, Ill., and Richard Germain (Timna) of South Hadley, Mass.; his grandchildren, whom he adored, Ellen and Laura Kobak, Kevin and Leah Mackstutis, and Kyle, Rebecca and Sadie Germain; a brother, Jack Germain (Barbara) of North Barrington, Ill. and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a sister, Ruth Karmeli.  Graveside service were held on May 9 at the Hartford Mutual Society Cemetery in East Granby with military honors.   Donations may be made to the Helen & Harry Gray Cancer Center, 85 Retreat Ave., Hartford CT 06106 or the American Heart Association, 1 Union St., Suite 301, Robbinsville NJ 08691-4183.
