Hospice Volunteers Needed

WEST HARTFORD – Hebrew Health Care Hospice in the Hartford area is looking for individuals who would like to share their time and talents with hospice patients in a variety of settings. Hospice volunteers are a key part of the hospice team in helping patients and families cope with the challenges of terminal illness. Volunteers work wherever the patient calls home – e.g., an assisted living, skilled nursing or independent living facility, a private home or a hospital. Hospice volunteers provide companionship to patients, and support for caregivers and their families. Activities may include, but are not limited to, pet therapy visits, music, singing, reading, discussing hobbies, alternative healing methods, life stories or just sitting quietly.
All hospice volunteers are required to complete 20 hours of orientation training and attend 12 additional hours per year of in service continuing education.
Training begins mid-January 2012. To begin the application process contact Jill Levin at (860) 929-7921, (860) 523-3888, or jlevin@hebrewhealthcare.org.
