Kosher food pantry receives matching grant

Stamford – Jewish Family Service of Stamford, New Canaan, Darien, Westport, Weston, Wilton and Norwalk (JFS) is among several non-profit hunger fighting agencies that will benefit from a matching grant from the Alan Shawn Feinstein Foundation. The $1 million grant will be divided among the participating agencies based on donations that each raises between March 1 and April 30.
In addition to cash/check donations, food items (valued at $1 per item or pound) will also count toward the amount JFS raises — and therefore receives from the Feinstein grant. The more donations an agency raises, the greater its share of the $1 million grant. The minimum a participating agency will receive is $250; the maximum is $35,000.
The JFS Kosher Food Pantry serves more than 200 families in the Stamford area at any given time. At present, the pantry specifically needs grocery, gas and pharmacy cards. JFS is accepting donations at the Stamford office Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. – 4 p.m., by appointment.
