BY THE NUMBERS – The Prospect of Peace

(JNS.org) Most Israelis and Palestinians view peace efforts by Secretary of State John Kerry with skepticism, says a new poll conducted by Harry S. Truman Institute at Hebrew University and the Palestinian Center for Policy and Survey Research.

57% of the Israelis support mutual recognition of Israeli and Palestinian national identity in a final status agreement (37% oppose it)

42% of Palestinians support mutual recognition

(56% oppose it)

44% of Israelis and 15% of Palestinians think the

two sides will not return to negotiations and

that “armed attacks will not stop.”

68% of Israelis and 69% of Palestinians do not think

there will be a Palestinian state within five years.
