Classroom in a trunk

black rockSixth-graders at Black Rock Elementary School in Bridgeport gathered around the school’s Holocaust “teaching trunk.” The brainchild of Bridgeport resident Gail Ostrow, an adjunct professor of English at Fairfield University, the trunk is filled with young adult novels on the subject of the Holocaust and other teaching materials to help young students learn about that dark period in world history. The trunk was funded by a donation from the Congregation for Humanistic Judaism of Fairfield County. Ostrow, a member of the congregation, is the volunteer co-teacher of the school’s Holocaust education program.
