Eugene Norman Hackel, 92, of West Hartford, died Nov. 20. He was the husband of Serene Hackel. Born in New York, N.Y., he was the son of the late Alexander and Gertrude Hackel. He served in the 8th Air Force during World War II, flying 31 combat missions including two on D-Day. He received several medals, including the Distinguished Flying Cross. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughters, Jamie and Susie Hackel; his granddaughter, Julie Buxbaum; and his great-grandson, Benjamin. WEINSTEIN MORTUARY
