Marian Wright Edelman, president of the Children’s Defense Fund, visited Hartford recently to discuss “Ending the Culture of Violence” at an event held on Thursday, March 14, that was open to the public, sponsored by the Jewish Federation of Greater Hartford’s Jewish Community Relations Counsel (JCRC). She followed up her talk the next day with a closed-door meeting for 80 community faith leaders held at The Emanuel Synagogue in West Hartford. The goal of the meeting was to begin building a viable interfaith plan of action to prevent future violence in the Hartford area. The interfaith group will gather again to solidify recommendations and agree on a Greater Hartford Action Plan. In addition to the Federation, the other Jewish organizations involved in the interfaith discussion were the Jewish Community Foundation and Jewish Family Services. Community partners include the Charter Oak Cultural Center.
