Judaism 101 in Hartford

The Conservative rabbis of the Greater Hartford region are once again offering a program to teach the core values and practices of Judaism.

Rabbi Richard Plavin, spiritual leader of Beth Sholom B’nai Israel in Manchester, will direct the Institute of Basic Judaism, a program presented in partnership with the Miller Introduction to Judaism Program at American Jewish University.

The program is comprised of 20 sessions held on Mondays, 7:35 – 9:15 p.m., beginning Oct. 19. Topics covered will include: Bible, prayer, belief in God, holidays, life passage rituals, kashrut, Israel and Zionism, and diversity in contemporary Jewish life. Classes will be taught by several of the rabbis in the Greater Hartford area, and are open to both Jews and non-Jews.

An additional module to teach Hebrew reading will be offered in December. For more information, contact Rabbi Plavin at myrabbi@myshul.com or (860) 643-9563; or visit ibJewish.org.
