Four Jewish educators selected for professional development program

WEST HARTFORD – Four local Jewish educators have been selected to participate in Jewish Federation of Greater Hartford’s CJEL Fellows program, an intensive two-year professional development program designed to help synagogue school teachers build their classroom skills and more effectively serve their students and the Jewish community.

Mandy Renert of Congregation Kol Haverim in Glastonbury, Jennifer Molinari of The Emanuel Synagogue in West Hartford, Melanie Shani of Congregation Beth Israel in West Hartford, and Alexis Aaeng of Farmington Valley Congregation–Emek Shalom in Simsbury will receive two years of training in Judaic content and pedagogy through Federation’s Commission on Jewish Education and Leadership (CJEL). They will attend at least 10 professional development sessions each year for two years, led by a team of master educators. Upon completion of the program, the fellows have committed to continue teaching in Greater Hartford’s synagogue schools for at least another two years. They will use their advanced skills to build a community of practice in Jewish education and to mentor other teachers.

“Supporting Jewish education in all its forms is what CJEL is all about – and our synagogue schools are part of the bedrock of Jewish education in our community,” said Heather Fiedler, the Hartford Federation’s vice president of Jewish education and leadership. “We are delighted to be able to support these talented Jewish educators as they continue to hone their craft and become mentors for the next generation.”
