Norman J. Katz

Norman J. Katz, 86, formerly of Hartford, passed away on June 18, the Sabbath, in West Palm Beach, Fla.  Born in Hartford, he was the oldest child of the late entrepreneurs Anna and Herman Katz.  He spent his childhood hanging out at his parents’ gas station, one of the first built in Hartford on Main Street.  After growing up, Norman served in the U.S. Navy as a radar commander on the USS Shangri-La aircraft carrier.  After serving, Norman’s career developed in sales at Eastern Paper Company which his parents also founded.  Norman lived a full life, enjoying boating from Chrisholm Marina with his first wife, the late Ellie (Blumenthal), and then retiring to Florida and traveling extensively with his second wife, Maureen.  Norman will be missed especially for his sense of humor.  He was predeceased by his younger brother, Everett.  Norman is survived by his devoted wife Maureen (Dickman) Katz; a sister, Carole Goldstein; sister-in-law Denise Katz; the children from his first marriage, Judith and Roger Cowen, Mike and Joann Katz; along with his grandchildren Rabbi Dylan Cowen, Daniel Eli, Marci and Hillary; and his great-grandchildren Emma, Reya, Issac, and Chaim Avraham.  Norman also leaves Maureen’s children, Marci and Ralph Schwartz, David and Liz Dickman, Jonathan and Diane Dickman; and their wonderful grandchildren Ari, Yael, Aviva, Hillel, Joseph, Samantha and Benjamin; and many loved nieces and nephews.
