KALB

Gerald I. Kalb: Gerald “Jerry” Kalb, most recently of West Hartford, died Jan. 30.  just shy of his 103rd birthday. He was predeceased by his wife of 68 years, Jeanette “Jeanie” Kalb. He grew up in East Orange, NJ and graduated from East Orange High School in 1938. He is survived by his daughters, Karen Kalb of Syracuse, NY, and Lisa and Barry Feigenbaum of West Hartford; his grandchildren, Melanie Feigenbaum of Massachusetts and David Feigenbaum of Washington, D.C.; and many adoring nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brothers Allan Kalb and Sanford Kalb. Following high school, he worked as a toolmaker at a munitions factory until he entered the army. Jerry was a combat infantryman with the 319 th Infantry Regiment of the 80 th Division. He entered the war landing in Omaha Beach one month following D-Day and was assigned to his regiment after briefly serving in a military police unit in Normandy. He fought with his regiment through France, Belgium, Luxemburg, Germany and Austria. He participated in the liberation of the Ebensee concentration camp. He was the proud recipient of the Bronze Star Medal, the New Jersey Distinguished Service Medal and the Combat Infantry Badge. Upon discharge from the Army, he enrolled in Syracuse University, from which he graduated in 1950. After a brief stint working in his cousin’s auto dealership, he began a long career in the women’s clothing industry, working as both an inside sales representative in New
York City and outside sales representative in Upstate New York. Following his retirement from the clothing business he held various retirement positions, including with the New York Thruway Authority. His career path took him to homes in Northern New Jersey and Syracuse, NY. He moved to Connecticut in 2014. He will always be remembered for his smile, positive disposition, devotion to family and country, and playing on the floor with his grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He was a member of Emanuel Synagogue in West Hartford and a former member of Temple Adath Yeshurun in Syracuse, NY
